There isn’t much buzz about Capital One’s soon to be 470′ Headquarters tower, but it will be sure to turn heads later this year as it begins to rise over the Capital Beltway and Tysons. When completed, Capital One Tower will be the tallest commercial building in the DC metro region and a symbol of the next generation of development and ambitions in Tysons.
Today the tower is still an excavated pit where crews progress the construction of foundations and structural supports for the future skyscraper. Near by new roads were constructed for the Capital One campus in order to help employees avoid the construction area, and to begin the process of redeveloping the property into an entire community of buildings ranging from retail to residential in land use.
Individually the streets don’t seem like much, but in aggregate with dozens of other similar projects around Tysons, these small links will eventually become a road grid that will help provide alternative transportation paths. A few hundred feet away the Silver Line metro at McLean station acts as a viewing perch to watch the changes over the next two years, while being the catalyst for why the changes are occurring in the first place.
