As part of the Capital One signage plan approval received from the Planning Commission this week, it became public that Capital One plans on creating a massive 15 x 69 foot outdoor display screen which will serve corporate purposes during business hours with the ability to do outdoor movie screenings and special events after hours.
The massive screen will be mounted along their new headquarter’s tower, currently under construction, near the ground level. Think Mosaic District outdoor screen, but with a 470 foot tower rising above. The outdoor space will be shielded from the main roadway of Dolley Madison Boulevard by landscaping and future development, and has taken into consideration factors which could cultivate distracted driving.
Some Planning Commissioners seemed particularly concerned about this aspect, but veteran commissioner Ken Lawrence, who saw similar plans and designs for the now popular (very popular) screening space at Mosaic, moved for it to be approved. The final yay or nay will come from the Board of Supervisors once a hearing is scheduled for later this year.
