A 470 foot building beginning vertical construction in Manhattan might be blasé but in the DC area it will be a record setting height approaching the height of the Washington Monument (555′) and about 50 feet taller than any other occupied buildings in the region. It’s happening outside of DC, right here in Tysons, at the Capital One campus along Dolley Madison Boulevard.
For months crews have been excavating for the foundations of the building and drilling piers for the structure that holds up the high rise. That phase of work is now coming to an end and this past week the construction team has been busy assembling the two tower cranes will climb up the building as it is constructed.
Passengers on the Silver Line might have the best views of the tower going up, but it’s sure to grab the attention of those stuck on the inner loop of Beltway as well, with the tower being so close to the road. It will be interesting also to see if the tower seems shorter than it is due to the significant elevation drop from the hill top of Tysons down to the area around Scotts Run, nearly 100 feet lower.
