There’s been a lot of talk about some new events happening all over Tysons this summer as the area tries to reinvent itself as more than a 9 to 5 corporate town. One of the more consistent changes many residents in North Central Tysons will notice will be the new Farmer’s Market on the NADA grounds at the intersection of Greensboro Drive and Westpark Drive.
The new market opened this Sunday May 18th (10am to 2pm), as a soft opening to get vendors and residents used to the presence in the neighborhood. There will be a grand opening on Sunday June 1st, a busy weekend in Tysons which will include the Spring into Summer Event at Tysons West on Saturday May 31st, a bike rodeo by FABB on Sunday, the first annual Tysons Walk on Sunday, and the Great Tastes of Tysons Food & Wine festival all weekend.
Smart Market’s will be celebrating the day with live music as well as chef demonstrations of their own. The weekly Sunday market will continue through October and will include several local farmers bringing seasonal fruits and vegetables, and a variety of other high-quality vendors producing small-batch baked goods and specialty items.
Jean Janssen, founder and President of Smart Markets reminds everyone who looks forward to supporting a local farmers’ market in Tysons to learn, play and shop at the same time. “Ours are markets that take our mission seriously. At the same time that we provide high-quality markets with attention to detail and customer service, we also want to make an impact on every community we serve.
Education about healthy eating to encourage more eating “in” instead of dining “out” is a big part of our outreach but we also want to be recognized as a lively and interactive catalyst for community-building activities. We also want to encourage and support thriving neighborhoods.” They encourage new shoppers to sign up to receive their weekly newsletter and to friend them on Facebook.
