As part of the Art in Transit initiative created by Fairfax County in 2009, a new art installation by a local artist will be coming to the McLean Station. You may remember earlier this year when the Arts Council of Fairfax County helped bring the Tysons Tiles to several metro stations in town, gathering thoughts and feelings of commuters and residents as part of a community integrated art project called Imagine Art Here.
There are other unique placemaking art installations at other metro stations as well, with as much blank wall space and the need for large public spaces to meet life safety and egress requirements it is a popular means to soften the station architecture.
Folks in Tysons may be used to seeing the art installation on the blank wall of the Tysons Corner metro station along Route 123. I look forward to seeing the new installation and hope it will work well with the future plans to make a public park space along Scotts Run directly adjacent to the station.
