It’s time to once again return to the misery that has befallen our little city of Tysons, #parkageddon. For those of you unfamiliar Parkageddon involves the onslaught of the driving hordes searching for hours in town for a parking space because none was provided for the Silver Line metro. Of course, there were 700 spaces provided at McLean station, the closest station to DC within Tysons, so one could imagine that there are cars stacked upon each other in a mad rush to find a place for their vehicle.
Then reality sets in, and observed data (that pesky thing) tells us that parking still is not an issue in Tysons. We can report that this past Thursday afternoon prior to rush hour, there were still only 78 cars parked at McLean metro station by our counts, essentially flat compared to our last measurement on July 31st (75 cars parked).
In other news, there were nearly two dozen bikes trying to find any available space at all on the outdoor bike racks at McLean station. Authorities don’t seem to think that more bike racks are needed at this time. We’ll keep an eye on numbers through out the summer and into the fall, but I’d be surprised if by September the lot was perennially full.
We’ve created a emergency distress hashtag in case you find yourself in dire trouble during #parkageddon, we are encouraging people to use it… and be safe out there!
