It’s been a while since we’ve talked about construction happening at Mosaic. Since our last trip out Avalon has opened, EYA is seeking more townhomes to build, and overall the retail is looking to be very healthy and continuing to grow.
On this trip out the most obvious change on the horizon is the new Mill Creek project at Mosaic. The 6-story mixed use apartments are starting to take shape in the prime location across from the Angelika Theater where crowds gather to watch major events on the outdoor screen or just to enjoy a warm summer day.
No word yet on who will be occupying the 30,000 square feet of street level retail below the Mill Creek apartment, but it might be time for Mosaic’s first corner bar or late night option.
In other retail news, the True Food Kitchen looks nearly complete just across the street from Mill Creek, and is already hiring staff.
I also never knew about the great patio space above True Food Kitchen that serves the new Custom Ink headquarters. It’s a premium location, with direct views of the outdoor film screen. It must be a great amenity for CustomInk employees to be able to go out on a Friday, have a happy hour at the office, with barbecue, and be able to perhaps watch a ball game on the big screen.
Overall, Mosaic continues to impress, the community is really coming together and getting an identity and the new retail that is filling in the gaps is different from the cookie cutter “town center’ shopping that is found in true suburban locations. It gives hope that similar conditions could be found in Tysons when a critical threshold is passed.
