The intersection of Solutions Drive and Greensboro Drive has become well known for the food truck scene in Tysons (until recently atleast) but it may become better known for an after work events space and parklet being constructed by property developer Meridian as part of their overall rezoning for the property.
Greensboro Place proposes new mixed use infill projects to replace the current glut of surface parking along Greensboro Drive in line with the vision of the Tysons Comprehensive Plan. While the project is a multi-year effort still pending jurisdictional approval, the first initial groundbreaking is already underway for a small parklet. The public space is envisioned to act as a lunch time retreat as well as an after work hours gathering place for events. No word on a time table yet but hopefully the renovated space will be ready for next spring.
There has been some progress already on the parklet, with parts of the concrete plaza having been formed. The fenced are shown includes all work to be complete on the park. There will be significant new plantings, a central seating and public art space, and modifications to the surrounding parking lot to provide a buffer for the space.
The full Greensboro Place project will head to the planning commission in March of 2015, and will include a half dozen new mixed use buildings surrounding the SAIC headquarters campus, as well as a larger future park space and street grid improvements.
