The World Police & Fire Games open tonight at 6PM, with the opening ceremonies being held at RFK Stadium. After tonight the games shift to Northern Virginia, and a focus on Fairfax. Tysons will play a big role in the games hosting four events at Lerner Town Square.
- You may have noticed the piles of beach sand being spread out and the tented pavilion. As you likely guessed, it’s for beach volleyball, which will be played from Saturday through Tuesday all day.
- Starting Wednesday afternoon through Friday you can enjoy watching Dodgeball. Watch athletes dodge duck dip dive and dodge their way to glory.
- Crossfit competitions will be held from Saturday and Sunday next to volleyball.
- See if anyone can break the world record in full equipment stairclimbing as firefighters from around the world attempt to climb every floor of Tysons Tower.
If you aren’t into the sports themselves, there are a lot of social events surrounding the games including live music as well as beer and food for sale. Admission is free! And all the Tysons events are within 500 feet of the Tysons Corner Silver Line Station.
I personally plan on being there for Dodgeball next week, and a personal shout out to all members of the Lake Braddock Dodgeball team of 2001 that went All-Region, winning the championship match against Thomas Jefferson.
