Tysons Corner Center has been a project in the making ever since its construction in 1968. It seems like every couple of years something new gets added or renovated. The latest expansion is the development of mixed use high rises along the Route 123 frontage, but mall goers might have noticed a new smaller feature. The addition of vertical planter walls that are being added along the facades of older sections of the mall are providing a better first impression for visitors.
The change is a small one, but when viewed as a whole it appears Macerich is making conscious efforts to incorporate a higher quality and standard to the flagship property. The vertical wall is more aesthetic than function but no one can deny the vast improvement from the original stucco concrete finish. Let’s hope the next aesthetic improvement will be to take out the old worn down and minimal sidewalk system around the mall and replace it with an appropriate plaza and streetscape which would befit a property with direct frontage to the metro.
