Nighttime Testing Scheduled in Falls Church area February 27 – March 3
The Dulles Corridor Rail Project will test Metrorail cars on energized rail overnights in the Falls Church area from 10 p.m. until 3:30 a.m., Wednesday and/Thursday, Feb. 27 & 28. Beginning on Friday, March 1, testing will begin at 10 p.m. and continue through the day and night until 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.
This stage of the testing process – known as “Dynamic Testing” – will help ensure that the cars are able to stop within specified distances at varying speeds (Safe Braking Testing) and that proper signaling communication between the train and the supporting wayside facilities is taking place (Control Line Testing).
The testing will occur on sections of the Silver Line tracks where successful track energization and testing of the Third Rail have been accomplished. Train cars will be powered by the Third Rail and driven manually by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) operators.
The testing will take place where the Silver Line is connecting with Metro’s existing Orange Line near the Dulles Connector Road and I-66. (The map below shows the approximate location of testing.)
