Around the Corner

Around the Corner today;

We are very thankful for representative Surovell and Ebbins high priority to repealing of the Hybrid Tax, which we found to be grossly over weighted and punitive towards hybrid vehicles. The entire idea of the tax was faulty in that it essentially doubled the tax on hybrid sedans while lowering the gas tax on larger, heavier, more pavement damaging vehicles. Logic and better policy won out. (Patch)

SilverLineMetroNew signs are backup for the Silver Line, this time without the major mistakes they previously had showing inaccurate information on where the silver, orange, and blue lines shared tracks. Thanks to Tysons Partnership, who we had a great talk with this morning (more to come soon on that front) for this picture on twitter.

Isn’t it wonderful? http://ow.ly/i/4KfUy

Hopefully, the solving of this glitch is a good sign that other issues with the line can be addressed sooner than later also.

Speaking of the Silver Line, Reston Now is reporting that if the Dulles Rail Partners do not have substantial completion before April they could face fines for delays. Atleast someone was looking out for the public in the writing of the contract to assure no cost overruns (all prices are set in the contract) and any major delays are assessed damaged. Unfortunately, I think the definition of delays is a bit lax with a 9 month window, and I think the fees are laughably small in the face of the multi-billion dollar project. Perhaps, more than just the fine, transportation officials will help avoid future fiascos by putting some of these bad contractors on a black list to reprimand their bad performance histories. Looks like Zara is coming to Tysons Mall, making my wife very happy. Looking forward to see what the store will look like and how it will be oriented on the plaza or within the new enclosure expansion of the mall entrance. (Washington Post)

*Corrected error in Zara story thanks to a reader comment.
