Tysons Tower office building now topped

Today in Around the Corner;

Sharon Bulova wishes more condo’s existed in Tysons so she could live here. Perhaps she’s not aware that zillow shows 3 open units in town; ready to move in. I understand the intent of her comments, all of the new projects coming online appear to be apartments due to issues of perceived risk with financiers; despite the fact that new condo’s inside the beltway are absorbed quicker than most single family homes. As with all things, this too will pass, and there will be a time when condos will be the primary housing unit type in construction… hopefully sooner than later. Side note, anyone else find it odd they used a photo of Supervisor Bulova in front of Dulles Airport… for a story about her wanting to live in Tysons? (Post)

A compromise has been reached between the state of Virginia and Tesla Motors to allow direct sales in the format of a dealership. This is good news for consumers. The only question remaining is, where will they choose to locate their dealership. I doubt Tesla will select a surface lot format for their very valuable vehicles to be displayed; therefore it is possible one of the new high rises building around town could be selected as a ground floor retail location for the car manufacturer. Transwestern has announced an intent to sell a five-building portfolio in Tysons which comes ready for rent until which time the new buyer wants to redevelop to a greater density. The properties are located on Old Meadows Road and come with several long term newly signed leasees, making it an attractive portfolio for several potential buyers. Whoever bites on the deal will likely move forward with a rezoning proposal to ensure the ability to redevelop if necessary in the future (Macerich I’m looking at you right next door). (Sacbee)

Via a tweet from concrete construction company Miller&Long, we now know that Tysons Tower office building is now topped out at 22 stories! The major bones and exterior construction has reached substantial completion in impressive speed and looks on pace to open along with other buildings encompassed by the project in mid 2014.
