The week started off with some confusion and police excitement as a situation turned from an isolated barricade at the Rotonda Condos to a fears of flammable or explosive materials. Luckily, the incident concluded without violence and the suspect, 62-year old Michael Gordon, was apprehended and now faces charges of Arson. By the way WUSA9, it’s Rotonda, not Rotunda. (WUSA9)

News out of MWAA’s monthly meeting, the Silver Line is being reviewed, and the changes to the communications link was approved for funding. Despite what WTOP is telling you, MWAA isn’t asking for any money from anyone for the $1.8 million change, as the funds will come from the already allotted contingency fund. Unlike what Reston2020 will have you think, the communication link has nothing to do with safety, it is an issue of trains stopping and is not related to the issues that occurred in signalling that caused the 2009 red line crash between two trains. There are plenty of problems to be debated about the Silver Line’s process and management, people don’t need to invent fake ones. (myFOXDC)

A UVA themed sports bar and restaurant looks to expand to Vienna and Tysons, not shocking considering many UVA graduates are either from Fairfax or come to Fairfax after graduation for work. My Hokie pride may keep me from ever visiting. (RichmondBizSense.com)

Fairfax County has posted their draft Tysons Master Park Plan, something that many existing residents, and a few nearby community leaders, have been waiting for. The document has a lot of good details about what is planned, which elements are already actually part of development plans under construction and/or planned. In general I think the document is a good step forward as it doesn’t rely on cookie cutter typical suburban definitions for parks as the end all be all. The plan includes everything from active recreation (sports fields, courts, ice rinks) to reflection and natural parks to several pocket parks which are sprinkled in a cohesive way around town.
It’s a good first draft, and we’ll surely be providing a more detailed breakdown of what is good and what might be bad. Comments are welcomed at the open house event at Spring Hill Elementary School on May 19th, at 7PM so mark your calendar.
