Around the Corner

In around the corner today;

Tom Jackman has a great story about the status of Tysons Last Forest and the battle over a dulles toll ramp which is now on its way out. The final decision on the controversial plan will be made January 15th in the Board of Supervisors meeting. (Washington Post)

The water wars may have found a resolution between Falls Church and Fairfax County over who has rights to taps within Fairfax County, especially the soon to be higher developed Tysons Corner. For years the Falls Church rate in Fairfax County has been significantly higher than what the rest of the county typically pays. (Examiner)

VDOT is looking at “river crossings” which we have suggested numerous times that any crossing should be multi-purpose in order to save future public funding costs and be located where existing traffic can support it via smaller tolls. Some believe this latest analysis by VDOT is a prelude to a battle over the outer beltway, the ghost project that never dies.

Urbanism Concept of the Day

There’s nothing new about bike rack art, it’s been around so long it’s become hackneyed and commercialized at this point. Still, every now and then you find a great one which is unique, uses different materials, and is a bit more fun than the twisted wrought iron that comes out of the assembly line.

When it comes to art, or public space pieces, it’s a gut thing. For whatever reason this one fits my image of what good bike rack art could be.
