Today in Around the Corner the future and present “Boro” neighborhood has a lot to offer residents. It’s been a long while, but VITA apartments at Tysons Corner Metro is open. And a new pedestrian bridge is under construction between two office buildings.

A Whole Foods (And Much More) Are Coming To Tysons
Yes, everyone has heard by now, Whole Foods is planning a massive 70,000 square foot flagship store at the newly named “Boro” neighborhood of Tysons. The new store will be more akin to the Whole Foods in Fair Lakes than other small formats that are in the area, and about 3/4ths the size of a super walmart.
What isn’t being noted as much is what will come along with that Whole Foods. A grocery anchor is a catalyst to development, just a half mile down Westpark Drive the presence of the Harris Teeter meant a much faster development pattern at Park Crest than would otherwise be financially possible.
The presence of Whole Foods ensures the over 2000 dwelling units, over 100,000 square feet of non-grocery retail, and nearly 2 million square feet of office space (all within walking distance of metro and laid out in an urban city block grid) will come online more quickly with the goal of turning the existing surface parking lots into a habitable neighborhood.

Lerner Installing Pedestrian Bridge
Another pedestrian bridge is going up around Tysons this week between Lerner’s 1800 Tysons Boulevard and the under construction 1775 Tysons Boulevard. The pedestrian bridge will provide access between several office buildings and Tysons Galleria on the west side of Tysons Boulevard to the new amenities and office on the east side of Tysons Boulevard.

While You Wait
If you lack the ability to time travel to the future when the Boro will be built out, there is still hope for some fun in Tysons. Tonight is week 2 of Music in the Park, a series at the Boro that features several food trucks, live music, and … FREE BEER from DCBrau… all at the newly built parklet on Solutions Drive.
The event was popular last week, largely populated with the office workers near by, but there is no reason residents can’t also join in on the fun. Food truck favorite Red Hook Lobster will be there tonight:
Catch us + @DCSlices + FREE beer + music from The Drone Pilots Thurs night in Tysons! 8301 Greensboro Dr. 4:30-7:30 https://t.co/UNMtXLcXqa

VITA Apartments Are Officially Open
A few months later than originally planned, but VITA apartments are officially open. They have been pre-leasing for quite some time now, and despite not yet being open they are already 25% leased.
“As VITA opens, the final piece of our exceptional mixed-use destination is now in place,” said Ed Coppola, President, Macerich. “The luxury apartment tower is well ahead of plan in terms of pre-leasing, demonstrating what a spot-on match these well-located, amenity-rich residences are for this market. With all three elements of our urban densification of Tysons Corner Center now open – Tysons Tower, the Hyatt Regency hotel and now VITA – our already unique and irreplaceable property is an even more valuable part of our portfolio.”
That is a good sign that the construction boom in town is not dwindling.
