It’s hard to miss the newest addition to the Tysons skyline from anywhere in the Tysons East neighborhood, Tysons North neighborhood, or passing by along the Beltway. The $35 million dollar facadist redo of the previous Brutalist (and dated) building from 1973 has added some flare to what some criticize as a prototypical office park skyline.
The renovation by owner WRIT is part of their goal to reposition the property as updated and modern with near direct access to metro (although existing walkways to metro have left many complaining). The building houses some prestigious tenants, including the Fairfax Chamber, who are likely happiest that the construction is nearing an end.
Beyond the new glass curtain wall that has replaced the previous concrete facade is a series of LED lights that have been entertaining residents and commuters stuck in the holiday season traffic. The lights are individually controlled for color and brightness which has led to some fun holiday motifs the past few weeks.
The refreshed building really has changed the look of this region of town. Along with 1775 Tysons Boulevard and Nouvelle Apartments it will turn a desolate stretch of aging office buildings into a more mixed use and transit oriented neighborhood.
