Vacated Office Building in Tysons preparing for demolition

If you are anywhere near the intersection of Route 123 and Anderson Road in Tysons you may have noticed some new activities occurring at the abandoned (for over a year) office building that sits in front of the Commons of McLean. The property, known by its current name as the Garfield parcel, is part of a Cityline project called Scotts Run Station which when finished will include 23 mid-rise and high-rise mixed use buildings.

This parcel specifically will be home to two new residential buildings with up to 440 units. The tallest of the two residential buildings will be 15 stories and include all below grade garage parking. Neither building proposes ground floor retail, however future plans for the site include an ambitious Station Street concept similar to Reston Town Center which proposes significant mixed use retail. In the interim this first project will serve to relieve an under supplied housing market.

As of right now there has been no update on the schedule for vertical construction, but based on the construction activity, and presence of construction crews, it appears the building will be demolished imminently. I don’t think too many tears will be shed from the removal of the outdated and ugly existing office building.
