The much anticipated Capital One headquarters, which at 470′ will be the tallest commercial building in the region once completed, is showing signs of construction progress. Crews have been spending the past few months bringing the overall site to final elevations, including work on a new road grid link for the campus. It now appears the overall site construction is beginning to give way to the tower’s construction itself.
Asphalt paving vehicles and front loaders have been replaced with pile drivers preparing for the construction of the buildings extensive foundations. The existing campus is continuing to operate during construction, significant effort has been put in place to maintain a buffer and traffic circulation, while separating the construction site with opaque fencing and separate construction entrance access.
To the north east of the project is the future extension of Scotts Run Drive. VDOT and FCDOT expect work to begin on the much needed connection between North Tysons and Tysons East over the Beltway within the next 24 months. Once completed the new connection will serve as a HOT Lane connection directly to Tysons East, and more importantly as a road for local vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
Much of the reason VDOT has been able to accelerate the timetable for the project is due to the initiation of construction on projects like Capital One, MITRE Building 4, and the Garfield parcel which are all nearby. Along with the new tower, Capital One will eventually build new parks, plazas, apartments, and retail in converting their current office park campus into a fully developed neighborhood with direct metro access.
